There can also be leaks that do not come from the outside, but which are instead caused by small drips from the home’s water pipes. Such cases also require repairs in order to solve the problem. Over time, leakage can cause paint peeling, wet plaster, and staining on walls.

Condensation is due to an excessive amount of humidity in the air. This excess humidity can be caused by household activities such as cooking and washing, or even by simply breathing. Condensation is produced when air carrying excessive humidity comes in contact with a colder surface. This occurs most commonly in the winter, when outdoor temperatures are much lower than those inside the house. The areas most typically affected are windows (with outdated insulation), north-facing walls (which receive the least sunlight and therefore stay colder), and poorly ventilated areas. Over time, the condensation of excess humidity will lead to staining on walls and the appearance of mould.
